Missed the Boat by Modest Mouse

That spring as I drove my kids to preschool I listened to a local indie rock station. I related to everything they played, but nothing quite so much as Modest Mouse’s, Missed the Boat, which was almost 10 years old, but still getting air time.

It is maybe the perfect song about professional regret, about being promoted over a friend, maybe about losing a friend to the stresses and conflicts of work.

I would quote some of the lyrics here, but I’d have to quote every goddamn one.
